HELPFUL GUIDELINES FOR APPLYING VETERINARIANS

Lucky Paw Foundation takes stewardship of our donations seriously and therefore must consider every aspect of each application carefully. Our mission is to help pets and people in extraordinary situations, when circumstances have deteriorated outside of all control, in spite of good decisions and significant efforts for a good outcome.


Our funds are not allocated for non-urgent procedures needed in the future, which typically give owners time for planning and saving - and we cannot utilize dollars for basic or elective care. Our mission rests on life-changing and life-saving moments, when all other options have been exhausted.

Veterinarian Quick Reference:

  • Licensed veterinarian MUST apply.
  • Recipient MUST reside in one of these counties: Emmet, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Mackinac, Schoolcraft or Chippewa.
  • We do NOT award funds for treatments that have already been completed.
  • We award funds for treatments that are life-saving or life-changing AND will likely NOT be performed without our support. Applicant’s family MUST demonstrate a significant effort towards this medical problem.
  • All 3 application documents MUST be completed prior to consideration. (Include specialist’s estimate and other documents detailing the extraordinary circumstances surrounding this situation that will better help us to understand the challenges the applicant is facing).

Our rewards rely heavily on the RECOMMENDATION of the applying veterinarian. We have to TRUST that the veterinarian has a strong relationship with the client and a GOOD UNDERSTANDING of the circumstances leading up to the application.


This includes witnessing his or her clients sound judgements and maximum efforts to provide all care within their means. (Example: We do not provide financial assistance for a client who wants to use their money elsewhere, such as a vacation, rather than pay for the advanced care that their pet needs.) Since we don’t know your client, your application is affirmation that YOU KNOW YOUR CLIENT has contributed all that they can before applying.
